NEW CLASSES STARTING MARCH 20th!
We'll be announcing all of our Spring Classes later this week and those classes will start Saturday, March 20th. While I don't want to jump ahead too far, I can tell you a little... First up is an intermediate casual sweater in Berroco's Pure Pima cotton - perfect for those chilly spring evenings watching a baseball game or picnicing in the park. The model is already up at the shop and that class will start on March 20. This sweater is done in a chevron seed stitch - not intricate, but also not a mindless project. Cost is $30 plus materials.
Next month (April) we'll start on an advanced beginner short-sleeved sweater. The body is straight stockinette stitch, but the yoke is cables and seed stitch. Lots to learn in this class - full-fashioned decreasing, picking up stitches, cables, mattress stitch, etc. If you already know how to do these things, this sweater will be a great quick project for your spring and summer wardrobe. Class starts Saturday, April 10th. Cost is $25 plus materials.
I'm in the process of designing a new spring/summer light weight shawl. We'll be making this out of Berroco's Ultra Alpaca Fine which means no dry cleaning bills! This is a machine washable (gentle cycle) yarn (though I'll probably still be handwashing mine.) Lacy leaves wend their way from end to end of this intermediate shawl. For those of you who wanted lace - this is it! This class will be starting in late May.
This is just the start - there are 9 classes in all - including a child's basic sweater class (where we'll learn basic sweater construction and duplicate stitch embroidery), and a heavily cabled neck roll pillow. Watch for further details. I hope to have a full class schedule at the shop by Saturday.
CHARITY KNITTING
One of the projects we're supporting this year is Blankets for Meharry. Sponsored by Knit and Crochet Tennessee, this group which is spearheaded by Lea Jane Burie has committed to provide 2500 blankets for Nashville General Hospital at Meharry.
The Busy Needle is a collection point for this ongoing blanket drive throughout 2009.
During a radio interview in January, I was quite thrilled when Terri Webb volunteered SunCrest Home Health, 814 S. Broadway, in Portland, as a second drop-off point for Blankets for Meharry! Thank you Terri! You rock!
